2021 Summer Glow Up- Week 5

As I start writing this blog post, it's the day of July 4th, and I'm travelling for the first since what feels like foreverrrr! And how awesome to be in a place like Philadelphia during the weekend of 4th too?!

My goal this vacation is to soak up as much time as possible with family, but also keeping consistent progress on the habits that I have been working to build over the past month. I know that if you are working on trying to be healthier and/or lose weight, travel can cause a little anxiety when it comes to staying on track, right?

So that is what we are going to focusing on this week. Building a system of habits to help you stay focused while on vacation, yet allowing yourself to relax and have fun too!

Have High Protein Breakfast and Snacks

I knew my hotel had a refrigerator and microwave, so I opted to get a few items to help me stay on track as much as possible with my nutrition. I knew that I would be going to a wedding and also a few family BBQ's, so having control over part of my day this way helps me keep up with some of the routine I've established the past few weeks.

For breakfast I have been having Bob Red Mill's Oatmeal..either the Cinnamon Apple or Maple Brown sugar flavor. All you have to do is add some water and microwave for 1 minute and then I add a scoop of collagen peptides for extra protein and some PB2 for extra deliciousness- SO good! Even if your hotel doesn't have a microwave you can just add some hot water to these too and that works just as well.

There is a Dunkin' Donuts close by- thank goodness!! I miss being on the East Coast and having these literally on every corner. I love their iced coffee sooo much haha So every morning I have been getting some iced coffee with almond milk added. I have a little with my breakfast and then I use the rest of my iced coffee to make a protein shake for post work out with a scoop of chocolate protein powder and PB2. I just pour in the iced coffee and shake it on up and it tastes just like a Reece's peanut butter cup!

So there are a few ideas you can use for meals when travelling, but start thinking of how you can plan ahead a bit to help you stay on track during vacation. Doing this will help you continue to stick to your routine and also indulge guilt-free when it's time to do that too!

Continue To Learn And Grow

During transformation of any kind and just navigating day to day life in general, it can make a world of difference to create a habit of reading or listening to something that will improve your mindset or teach you how improve upon a skill-set. I'm now reading "Atomic Habits" by James Clear. I'm just a few chapters in, but already love it!!

One of the biggest takeaways from reading this morning, is that we often focus to much on our goal and not a system that we need to have in place to get to that goal.

So if your goal is to save more money each month, take a step back and think of a system of habits that you need to have in place in order to reach that goal. Some of your system might look like not ordering out food every day of the week and making meals at home, cancelling recurring memberships for a bit, setting a grocery and entertainment budget (things that are not a fixed expense), utilizing Ramsey's Snowball debt method etc. What may seem like small, sometimes mundane tasks, can equal big results in the long run!

Prioritize Moving Your Body

With travelling you may not be able to do your exact workout routine that you have been following- but there is honestly SO much you can do with your own body weight and resistance bands or loops!

On this trip that I'm on right now, I have been doing barre workouts using 2 lb weights and resistance loops and quick HIIT routines for cardio days.

Ok fine. I'll admit it, packing weights mayyy have been a bit extra of me lol but I've been sticking to my routine and in turn feeling really good about keeping up with my exercise habit!

So when going on your next trip think of body weight and resistance workouts you can incorporate in order to stick with your exercise routine- and make it a priority just as you normally do in your daily routine.

Keep Up With Your Skin Care Regimen

You've probably noticed by now, we're focusing on following a system of habits regardless of our daily routine changing up with travel. Small consistent actions that may seem like nothing day to day, make a huge difference over time.

Doing things like eating a healthy breakfast, working out and staying on track with your skincare routine, will make it that much easier to keep going with these habits when you routine home- rather than feeling like you have to "start over again".

I've been loving the addition this Retinol Serum by Pixi to my skincare routine. I find things like sticking to your skincare routine and drinking a lot of water when travelling, can help combat the effects of stress with travel and climate change.

So that wraps up week 5's blog post! Are you planning a trip this year? Let me know where you're planning on going in the comments below!

xx,

Katie
